The first in an ongoing series of interdisciplinary research conversations for graduate students, we are excited to announce Lightning Talks in the Research Commons: Sustainability next Tuesday, April 10th 4-5:30pm in the Research Commons Presentation Place.

This event, organized by the UW Libraries Research Commons and the Graduate School, will feature 8 short lightning talks (5 minutes each) given by graduate students doing research on topics related to the theme “Sustainability.”  Student presenters come from the Evans School, School of Aquatic and Fisheries Sciences, Information School, Computational Linguistics, Global Health and Atmospheric Sciences. There will also be a librarian presentation on relevant library resources and services related to the monthly theme.

This format was inspired by Ignite events, which limit speakers to 20 slides, 5 minutes. In other words, “Enlighten us, but make it quick.” This will be a fun, informal event that will allow grad students to share their research across disciplines, make connections, and build presentation skills. This event will be open to all UW students, faculty, and staff, and is intended to further our mission of fostering interdisciplinary conversation.

There will be a Q&A with presenters at the end of the event, and light refreshments.
